The Mile High Horror Film Festival Submission Details

We are accepting submissions for the 2014 festival!

The festival will take place Oct. 10-12, 2014 at Alamo Drafthouse Denver - Littleton, CO.

We are an IMDb qualifying Festival, which means that all films in consideration will receive an invitation to create a title page on the Internet Movie Database website!

Submission instructions

To submit a film for consideration

1) Follow the "Make Submission" link and fill out the form on Withoutabox. (You will need to create an account on Withoutabox if you do not already have one): Make Submission

2) Download and sign a copy of the festival rules. Return the signed rules form along with your entry.

Rules and Regulations

These rules are provided for your information only; you must download, print and sign a rules form and return it along with your submission. Click here for a copy of our rules.

  • All submissions to Mile High Horror Film Festival must include a completed and signed copy of the Festival Submission Form.

  • All submissions to Mile High Horror Film Festival must include the applicable entry fee.

  • Individuals can submit multiple entries to the festival. Each entry should be submitted individually.

  • Submissions must be provided on an NTSC formatted DVD or as a digital file (please test before sending). Submissions should be available for screening on a digital HD .mov file, Blu-ray, DCP, or 35mm.

  • Submissions must be English language or English subtitled.

  • Submitter must include the title of the submission and name of all contacts on all media, materials and containers.

  • Do not use fiber-padded envelopes to send videotapes. The residue ruins tapes and equipment.

  • Do not send originals: in case of loss or damage while in possession of the Festival, the responsibility of the Festival is limited to the costs of repair or replacement of the physical media only. The Festival is not responsible for materials lost or damaged in transit.

  • Submissions must be available for screening during the Mile High Horror Film Festival. The 2014 MHHFF will take place October 10-12 at the Alamo Drafthouse Littleton.

  • Mile High Horror Film Festival reserves the right to change the category for a submission. Eligibilty and category determinations, along with prize awards, are at the sole discretion fo the Festival.

  • Submissions may be screened more than once during the Festival.

Additional requirements

  • Animated films

  • Animated films of all lengths are accepted for consideration into this category.

  • Submissions open to anyone

  • Creative Colorado competition

  • The Creative Colorado Competition is a short film competition accepting submissions for films that are produced under the following guidelines: 1. The film must be shot in the state of Colorado. 2. The film must be no longer than 5 minutes in duration. 3. The film must be in the genre of horror. Comedic horror will be accepted for consideration. 4. You must creatively integrate the following into the film:

  • a) a spork b) a skateboard c) popcorn d) the Mile High Horror Film Festival logo e) a diaper

  • Feature length films

  • Feature-length films running 50 minutes or more are accepted for consideration into this category.

  • Submissions open to anyone.

  • Local Colorado feature films

  • Must have proof of being filmed by a Colorado resident or have been filmed in the state of Colorado.

  • Must run at least 50 minutes or longer in order to be considered for acceptance into this category.

  • Local Colorado short films

  • Films must be produced in Colorado or have proof of a Colorado resident working on the production.

  • Films must be less than 49 minutes in length to be considered for this category.

  • Music videos / movie trailers

  • Movie Videos and movie trailers must be between 2 and 10 minutes in length in order to be considered for this category.

  • Short films

  • Short films running 49 minutes or less are accepted for consideration into this category.

  • Submissions open to anyone.

Returns and Acknowledgments

DVDs and press materials will not be returned under any circumstance. Include a self-addressed, stamped postcard for each submission if you wish acknowledgment of the receipt of your entry.

Terms and Conditions

  • I/We have read the Mile High Horror Film Festival Rules and agree to comply with them. Futhermore, I/We represent and warrant as follows with respect to my/our submission:

    • It is original work.

    • There are no disputes regarding ownership.

    • There is no defamation, invasion of privacy, violation of rights of publicity, intellectual property infringment or similar violation of law.

    • To the best of my/our knowledge, the above statements are true and completely accurate, adn I/We understand that failure to adhere to Festival Rules may result in disqualification adn fee forfeiture is the Festival's sole discretion.

    • I/We hereby authorize the Mile High Horror Film Festival to enter my/our submission into the Festival in accordance with all Festival Rules listed on MHHFF Rules and agree to indemnify, defend and hold the Mile High Horror Film Festival harmless from any and all loss, damge, cost, claim, liability or expense, including without limitation attorneys' fees, related to or arising out of my/our breach of the above or the Festival Rules, or by my/our submission, whether or not groundless.

    • In the event my/our submission is selected for the Festival, the Festival will request copies of any related press kits, trailers, promotional videos, poster images, behind-the-scenes materials and other marketing materials produced by participant ("Marketing Materials"), and I/wwe grant the Festival a non-exclusive limited license to display not only my/our submission at multiple screenings but to also copy and use our submisison and Marketing Materials for the sole purpose of presentign and promoting the festival and its participants.

Judging

Our selection process is democratic in nature. Each film is voted on individually by members of our selection committee. Our diverse committee is made up of people from various ages and backgrounds including a film professor, an author in the horror genre and avid genre film fans.

Accepted films are eligible for awards. Prizes are awarded at the festival based on voting by celebrity judges and audience members.

Each 2013 winner will receive a custom MHHFF award along with prizes from our sponsors. In 2012, our festival gave away thousands of dollars worth of prizes from FEARnet, Sony Creative Software, Horror News Network, Write Brothers, Chemical Burn Entertainment, and Award & Sign.
